snow day & homemade christmas ornaments

It snowed today, so Rowan was home for the day. He played in the slushy snow, and then we made the same Christmas ornaments I made in the first grade. This ended up being the perfect thing to do with a 3 year old on a snowy afternoon.

Homemade Christmas Ornaments

2 cups flour
1 cup salt
3/4 cup water

Preheat oven to 200 degrees.

Combine ingredients in a medium bowl and stir. Then, start kneading until sticks together and is doughy. If the dough is to dry, add water and if it is too wet just add a bit more flour. You can form the dough into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.

Using a rolling pin, roll out the dough flat to about 1/4 inch thickness or whatever you like. I like them pretty thin so they don’t weigh down the tree branches. Then, cut the dough into shapes using cookie cutters. Using the tip of a pin make a small hole in the top of each ornament. Once it is dry you can thread ribbon through the hole.

Place on a parchment lined cookie sheet and let them dry in the oven for about 20 minutes. Once they are dry, you can decorate.

Happy Holidays!
