dyeing eggs

Rowan and I spent the morning making egg dye out of beets, blueberries and turmeric. Everytime an egg actually changed from white to red or blue or yellow Rowan was in awe. He loved the whole thing, and has been talking about our eggs and the Easter bunny all day. I have to say that our eggs did not come out the beautiful, rich colors you see on Pinterest, but I guess it doesn’t really matter.

The process was very simple. For the beets and blueberries I added the fruit to about a cup and a half of water and let boil for 30 minutes until the water gets syrupy. For the Turmeric, I just heated about 1/4 cup of seasoning to water and heated it up so that it can dissolve a bit. I added vinegar to the beets. We soaked and resoaked the eggs for about a minute each.
